Interview Episode hosted by Hannah Heiskell

Speaker 1:

Alright. Hi, everybody. This is Hannah High School. I'm with

Speaker 2:

Andrew Fried.

Speaker 1:

Yes. And Andrew Fried is from Long Island, New York, and he is a sports and adventure media major here at WVU. He is a senior. And, yeah, I'm going to be asking him what has been your favorite college experience here at WVU?

Speaker 2:

My favorite college experience here at WVU? I mean, I would take it back to my first football game here. It was my first big football game, maybe first football game ever. Haven't been to any pro college level, so getting to see that environment was something very exciting for me. I had never seen such an environment.

Speaker 2:

So it kinda made me feel like I I did belong here as an exciting thing to see, and I knew that, you know, this was gonna be the next 4 years. So I think that was a fun thing for me and a great experience too.

Speaker 1:

Were you a WVU fan before you came here, before you applied, or were you just, like, part of school?

Speaker 2:

I no. So, so funny enough, I had no idea where I wanted to go, and I saw an ad. The the advertisement here really got me. They did a good job because they got me. I saw 1 in 1 Instagram advertise advertisement and was hooked, got me.

Speaker 2:

I applied, it had everything I wanted in a school, and also my mother said I can go 7 hours away max, so that's exactly what I did. I am a 7 hour drive away. Makes her happy, kind of, and yeah, so they got me on that. I did not know anything about the school, up until junior year of high school. Maybe didn't even know there was a school here.

Speaker 2:

But

Speaker 1:

So have you been to, like, West Virginia before then?

Speaker 2:

Nope. This is my first time. When I came in junior year, it was my first time, ever in the state. Yeah. I also am unfortunately never traveled along the state.

Speaker 2:

I've only seen the school, so I'm hoping before I leave here to see a little bit of it.

Speaker 1:

Yeah. You gotta go to, like, there we have we have, like, the ski resorts and all that that good stuff. You gotta go

Speaker 2:

I gotta go see it a little bit before I leave because I don't know when I'll be back after college.

Speaker 1:

Yeah. What what do you think of living here though? Like, is it is it much different from your hometown?

Speaker 2:

I love it. I love how I love how different it is because it's a much more slower, friendlier environment. Not to say where I'm from is not happy. I mean, Long Island's very happy, but the people aren't always as happy. And it's, it was a nice change of pace when I got here, and everyone had that you know, everyone was so nice to you.

Speaker 2:

Everyone wanted to welcome you. I don't know if I'd consider this southern hospitality because I don't consider this very southern, but people back home do consider this south. But the the kindness around here was great, and this just everything felt like it slowed down a little bit. Everything in New York is very fast paced. So coming down here, it was just it was nice, kinda calm down.

Speaker 2:

You could just breathe. You can enjoy the day. You can enjoy the weather. You can enjoy the outdoors. So that was a big difference for me and I really enjoyed that, about my time here.

Speaker 1:

Yeah. I was gonna say I feel like New York, like you said, is more of a a fast paced environment. It's more city life. For sure. And this is more like, not rural, but it's more like, you know what I mean.

Speaker 2:

Outdoors.

Speaker 1:

Yeah. Okay. So we're gonna wrap it up. Thanks guys for listening. And, we will see you next time.

Speaker 1:

It didn't even stop.
